Welcome to the World of Warcraft TCG Reborn!
/Rising From the Ashes
Greetings and welcome to the World of Warcraft TCG Reborn! My name is Woodrow and I’ll be working alongside the Reborn crew throughout the year to help create a fun, competitive, and worthwhile environment for us nostalgia junkies to get our fix of WoW TCG! We have a large and ever-growing team of passionate people excited to breath some life back into the game we all enjoy! There’s a lot of ground to cover both this year and in this article, so I’ll just highlight some of what we have in store for the people whose hearts were broken back in 2013 with the untimely death of our favorite game.
Reborn Organized Play
2019 will be the inaugural year of the Reborn Circuit, a series of live events and online ladder seasons that persist from January through December. We have events lined up for the first half of the year at gaming conventions and game stores across the Midwest, South, and soon to be East and Western USA. And there’s more to come!
At the live circuit events you can expect to find all the familiarity of WoW TCG and general card gaming. But we’ve standardized everything for the tournament organizers so that while there might be different personalities, strengths, or weaknesses in a certain group, you can always expect an event to run the correct number of rounds, allow proxies, seat and pair properly, and have worthwhile prize support. We take that last bit to heart. We’ve been working hard on our tournament kits to make sure that if you show up to a Reborn Circuit event, you have the chance to walk away with something meaningful.
The other half of our organized play will take place online. I’m talking about over Tabletop Simulator, of course. We have a custom competitive 1v1 scripted table with a match submission button that feeds our online seasonal ranked ladder using your Steam ID. Basically, we’re gonna track your games. If you’ve had a bad experience on Tabletop Simulator or just struggled to use the client, I recommend you give our table a try upon release. Playing WoW TCG over Tabletop Simulator has never been easier! Head over to the Reborn Discord to learn more about it.
Lastly, the thing that ties the Reborn Circuit organized play together is that every live event and online ranked season will be informing our Reborn Circuit Leaderboard. When you do well at a live event, or rank among the top few at the close of an online season, you’ll earn points toward the Reborn Circuit Leaderboard. Those who finish the year on top will have a lot to look forward to and the 2019 Reborn Circuit Champion will have a completely unique and special prize. The Reborn Circuit live events schedule is growing each day so make sure and check in on our socials or the events page to see if an event is coming to a location near you!
The Scan Project
We feel strongly that the WoW TCG Scan Project is a worthwhile endeavor. A year and a half ago u/KingSpark7 approached the r/wowtcg community about the need for high resolution card scans. These scans will improve every aspect of WoW TCG including articles, proxied cards, deck databases, and online play. So we came up with a goal: 2019 Scan Project Complete. To help us reach that goal.. well.. for one.. I’m going to be scanning a ton of cards. But even though scanning is fast and easy, I can’t do it alone! We need to tackle this as a community.
We realize, though, that everyone is old and busy now so we came up with an incentive to get our butts in gear and get some cards scanned. Excluding myself, the person who contributes the most card scans toward the scan project in 2019 will receive several special prizes! This will include a one-of-a-kind playmat featuring the contributor’s name and card art from a WoW TCG card, a fat stack of WoW TCG promo playsets, and a few other vanity and valuable prizes we’re still cooking up. In short, we’ll make it worth your while! If there’s someone close in second or several people close to the top, we’ll figure out something for you as well. Head over to the Reddit thread for info on how you can help!
Continuing the Card Game
At Origins Game Fair 2019 we will release a new full WoW TCG set “Into the Mists”, the first set of Block 8 or Mists of Pandaria Block. We will be moving to two-set blocks which will release each Spring, meaning that early Spring 2020 will have set two of Block 8, and Spring 2021 will introduce Block 9. Each set will be roughly one and a half times the size of the CZE era sets to where the card pool in Core stays roughly the same. Accompanying Block 8 will be class starters for each of the classes. None of this will be legal for any of the events at Origins, but we will be handing out product and running pickup drafts for fun. Later in the year, we will release four direct-to-Classic Chaos pre-constructed decks to expand the Chaos and Classic formats. And finally at the end of the year, we will release a Raid and accompanying Treasure set.
We fully expect the community to have reservations at hearing this news. And we don’t blame you. We’ve seen it often in un-dead card game communities where players take the reigns on card design and burn the community with bad products, erratas, and rules changes. This isn’t our first rodeo and we have a great team of people working on our card projects. I won’t give a spiel about why this will be different, but I’ll just ask that you try and have an open mind when spoiler season arrives. If you see our cards and still aren’t convinced, let us know at that time how you think we went wrong and how we can improve.
Wrap-Up
There’s more to share but I won’t hold you any longer. Let’s just say I’m anticipating that 2019 will be the best year for WoW TCG in a long time! If you have any relevant talents or interest in contributing, feel free to reach out and see how you can be involved. Until next time, sela'ma ashal'anore!
